The choir is all about music, friends, fun and happiness. It was created by Rachel Whittaker in February 2016. Rachel ran the children's choir at the local school and lots of parents and staff wanted to sing too. The choir started with just 20 members but has grown year on year. We are all about good friends, having fun and making music together. We are a real community with a wide variety of ages and abilities.
Music makes you feel good and singing together is so uplifting and good for your health too!
We sing contemporary songs you will recognise from being in the charts over the years or in favourite films and musicals. We love to sing upbeat and feel good songs and the choir often suggest their own favourites.
We rehearse in Stamford Bridge Infant School Hall in Godwinsway, Stamford Bridge YO41 1RA.
We meet every Wednesday evening 7-8pm during term time.
Your first visit is free to make sure you like what you see!
Fees after that are £20 per half term.
No don’t worry, there is definitely no audition process!
There is direct access into the hall from the on site car park and there is a toilet suitable for people with disabilities.
No you don’t! We know life is hectic and it’s difficult to make every rehearsal.
There is no pressure to perform at all. Some of our members just love to sing every Wednesday and that is enough for them. Other members can’t wait to get out there and share our love of music, it’s entirely up to you.
It isn’t necessary to read music, we learn all the songs together with Rachel’s excellent guidance. No matter what level of musical experience you have you’ll be made very welcome.
We now have our own beautifully designed scarves which we will wear with plain black tops, plain black trousers or skirts with black shoes.
We love to raise money for good causes not just in our own village but all around York and even further afield. We have sung in choir festivals, at BBC Countryfile Live at Castle Howard, in schools, retirement homes, churches, pubs, railway stations, in Bridlington Spa, Spark:York and also Fenwicks.
In the past 4 years we have raised over £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support, York Against Cancer, Marie Curie, York District Hospital, All Saints Church in Low Catton, St Oswald’s Church in Fulford, Forever Young Festivals and Stamford Bridge in Bloom to mention just a few.
Yes we are available for hire for events large and small.
